In late 2016, AT&T had announced the support of DirecTV Now on Samsung Smart TVs along with a bunch of other devices like Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV (4th Generation), Android, and iOS. Now, they even support Chrome 50+ and Safari 8+ browsers. DirecTV Now service is a bit different from DirecTV. Today AT&T started to roll out an update to the DIRECTV NOW app on iOS and the Apple TV. It seems that AT&T is rolling out a significant update not to the user interface but the back end of DIRECTV NOW. For the last few months many DIRECTV NOW users have complained that DIRECTV NOW has been crashing and suffering a long list of bugs. I own both a 3rd and 4th gen Apple TV, and recently subscribed to the DirecTV Now app in anticipation of 'cutting the cord' and go to streaming TV only. I got the app installed on my 4th gen and love it (I actually got the 4th gen free by prepaying for 3 months of DirecTV Now for $105, which was $35/month x 3 months in advance). However, I can't download the app to my 3rd gen. Is there any viable option to get it on my 3rd gen? If I have already downloaded DirecTV Now to my other apple devices via iTunes store, can I not select it from previous purchases and install? Could I get a developers account and add the DirecTV Now app as a developer? Or is my 3rd gen already THAT obsolete?
